Holiday Portrait Cards: Details & FAQ

Happy Fall! This is my favorite season of the year because the weather is cooler and things start to get festive! It’s also my favorite time of the year because we’re releasing our signature holiday portrait cards.
Since getting married, I’ve loved sending our cards to our family and friends. I wanted to send something unique so I made one of these for myself. It was such a huge hit with family and friends that I decided to release it to the public! Each year, we’ve sold out early & I couldn’t be more grateful.

Over the years, I’ve collected all the frequently asked questions on how it works and will be answering them here! I hope this blogpost helps you decide if this is the right option for you and helps make your experience that much easier.

Q: Who is this for?

A: Holiday portrait cards are great for families and couples that:

  • Live further away and it’s difficult to get together for a group photo

  • Have little ones or fur babies that can’t sit still during photoshoots

  • Wants to put a unique spin on their traditional holiday cards!

We can fit two to six persons or pets in a card.

Q: What kinds of photos are best for holiday/thank you cards?

A: Here are a few simple rules to follow when choosing & submitting a reference photo:

- Individuals must be facing forward, standing side by side showing height difference

- Photo should be taken in good/natural lighting with no added filters (b&w or sepia photos are not accepted)

- Photos must clearly show the hairstyles and outfit desired (bust up only)

Tip: Remember, the artist has not seen you in real life so make sure the photo clearly shows your face & features! We highly suggest sending the exact photo (hairstyle, clothes, posture, etc.) you want to be painted in to make it look as seamless as possible. One photo reference is best, but you can submit multiple photos if a group photo is not possible (one photo limit per person).

Q: Can I add facial features?

A: Our holiday portrait cards are painted in our signature faceless style. Personally, we think this style looks best on a 5x7 card along with the template!

If an individual is wearing glasses and/or  has a mustache/beard, we paint in those details.

Q: What is the general turn-around time for my card order?

A: Once you place your order & make your payment, please allow 2 weeks for artwork to be completed. You will receive a digital proof of your portrait card, which include one minor revision (allow an additional 1-2 weeks for edit). For in-house printed card sets, please allow an additional 7-10 days for printing & shipping.

If you want your holiday portrait cards before Christmas, make sure to complete the order before November 20.

Q: What kind of revisions/edits will I get on my portrait?

A: Each order allows up to one minor revision/edit. Acceptable edits include: changing family name, minor spacing requests, etc. If the edit requires a repaint or new detail requests (for example: changing outfit, hairstyle, or adding facial features after the painting is finished), it will be an additional fee. Please note, adding a revision may delay the turnaround time.

Q: What is the difference between in house printing or purchasing the digital file only?

A:  If you prefer to print your own cards, we offer digital file only. The high res file will be delivered to you via email along with a printing guide.

While we offer digital only, we highly recommend taking advantage of our in-house printing option with discounted prices. Your 5x7 card set will be printed on premium cardstock paper (single sided) with a matching white envelope. You can even add return address printing on the flap side so it’s ready to be mailed out! The in-house printing option also comes with a digital file for you to keep and comes with free US shipping.

Q: Can I mix and match the template design and greeting message?

A: Absolutely! We have 6 template designs & 6 greeting messages - all which can be mixed. All cards come with your family name signed after “Love,” (for example, “Love, The Smiths”).

I hope this helps clarify our holiday portrait card process & gets you excited about the holidays :) To be the first to know any & all updates, male sure to subscribe to our newsletter
